Flash Technique can significantly reduce the emotional distress connected to extremely painful and powerful trauma memories...

Flash Technique is especially effective during the preparation phase of EMDR or before beginning a trauma-focused therapy. At times, the Flash Technique has provided such effective results that additional trauma therapy was not needed. The Flash Technique can significantly reduce the emotional distress connected to extremely painful and powerful trauma memories without you having to relive the experiences.

With this process, you have no conscious contact with the traumatic event. Therefore, the defenses that normally challenge trauma therapy are not activated because the process itself is neither threatening nor painful.

I also find the Flash Technique to be especially helpful to use during the trauma processing phases of the standard protocol of EMDR or EMDR for Early Life Trauma & Neglect. Sometimes, a client can experience overwhelming distress during the trauma processing phases of these protocols. When this occurs, I shift to using the Flash Technique because I have found it to be incredibly effective in decreasing the overwhelming distress the client is experiencing. Once the level of distress has decreased to a manageable level, I then shift back to using the standard protocol of EMDR or EMDR for Early Life Trauma & Neglect for full resolution of the trauma memory.
